The number of R&D centers in Turkey is 961 now.

The number of R & D centers established in Turkey with the incentives given in recent years reached 961. In particular, new arrangements were introduced for the R&D centres by virtue of the “Law on Supporting Research and Development Activities” enacted in 2016 and the Law Related to Making Amendments in Certain Laws and Decree Laws, also known as R & D Reform Package. Under the law, the number of full-time equivalent R & D staff was reduced from 30 to 15. In this way, SMEs were allowed to establish R & D centers, as well. In the last two years, 697 R & D Centers were established while only 264 R & D centers were established until the second half of 2016 (in 8 years) when the relevant arrangement was completed. 234 design centers were established in 2 years thanks to the incentives granted to the design firms.

TÜBİTAK WİLL STEER ₺ 2.8 BİLLİON

TUBITAK R & D support budget rose to 2 billion 871 million TL in 2018 with an increase by 1.2 percent. Industry R&D Support Program gets the biggest share from the relevant budget, with an allocation of 471.4 million TL, in addition to 250 million TL transferred to the Public R & D Support Program and 310 million TL to the Academic and Applied R & D Support Program.

MACHINE SECTOR TAKES THE LEAD

Considering the sectoral distribution of R&D centres opened since 2016, machinery and equipment production ranks the first with 128 R & D centers, automotive industry ranks the second with 100 R & D centers and software sector ranks the third with 82 R & D centers.
